YouTube trotted out all their heavy hitters for their Videocracy event in NYC last night.
Here are some highlights of what they said:
For Content Partners/Creators
Get ready for active sharing.
Get ready for upgraded video editing tools.
YouTube will be launching video recommendations based upon your viewing preferences (like Amazon Recommendations).
Content will be distributed on multiple platforms, from mobile to TV (Steve Chen is excited about content on really, really big TVs).
Tips for content creators:
Understand user behavior. Use YouTube’s channels. Engage and participate by being active, i.e use the comments! Extend the popularity of your content by speaking authentically to your audience.
For Marketers
Great example from Gordon Paddison about Be Kind, Rewind’s use of YouTube.
But the real news was YouTube’s announcement of an impending launch of advanced analytics tools. You’ll be able to see where video views are coming from (geographically and site-wise), as well as many other data points. This will be a huge help to advertisers trying to extract more success metrics and data from their YouTube efforts.
Tentpole Content Initiatives
* The YouTube Games — some kind of takeoff on the Olympics. Looks to be a kind of wacky wide world of weird sports.
* Living Legends — content featuring, well, living legends. The first legends featured will be The Rolling Stones. This looks pretty great.
* The YouTube Global Gathering — simulataneous events worldwide, broadcast on YouTube.
Fun event, YouTube. I’m glad there was some good information shared.

Ok. Fine. Some nice ideas, like active sharing, But when will You Tube address the #1 issue with their service: Extremely bad video degradation with the existing engine. Youtube became “YouTube” by making videos (with a very small k footprint) embeddable anywhere. Genius. Ok, now that YT is ubiquitous, it’s time to make those videos not look so universally… bad.
Unless maybe they’ve announced an intent to do this that I’ve missed?
They did mention quality improvements last night, but did not go into much detail.

I loved Team Flight Brothers. It reminded me of when I played basketball in high school. In my backyard. On an 8 foot rim.

I like the active sharing and the suggestions thing, but i kinda think that youtube should give up on the whole “online edit” thing. They should make a free or cheap DOWNLOADABLE software that easily allows you to edit and upload to youtube. Just a thought. Email dougbutner@gmail.com

Google kicked off the event by showing a room full of Giants fans a roughly edited, pre-superbowl, teleprompted endorsement by Tom Brady.
The worst move of the evening, IMHO. Then again, I’m a die-hard Giants fan.
Great coverage of the event, Ian. I was able to grab a little bit of footage. Check it out: http://www.tilzy.tv/news/2008/.....-Party.htm
Great news, indeed.
Unfortunately I was not kicked out from their party, but fom youtube itself, as I had to read in my mails after being offnet for some months for private reasons.
Being a youtuber for several years until then, I lost ANYTHING I did in this community, and I am still just to shocked to know what to reply to them.
I uploaded some 30 videos myself, some which received really great feedback - I lost my favorites, my comments are gone, my contacts ..
And if you see the three videos that have been reported as inappropiate, you may wonder if this is a global company or some garage firm from the US bible belt .. I really dont know.
Anyone knows what to write them to get my account re-enabled ?
Any suggestions maybe ?
I feel really lost on that .. and sry, if thats a bit offtopic .. just checking my mails and reading the mentioned youtube message and see this post here nearly happened on the same time.
All the time and “work” invested, now just anythings gone because some people dont understand a bit of humour .. I cant believe it
