I spoke today at the Ad Council's Partner Conference, where many of the causes the Ad Council supports get together to discuss the burning issues around raising awareness of their very important initiatives.
At this event, the focus was squarely, 100% on social media, and understandably so.
In doing my part to set the table for the day's discussion, I gave the following presentation where I talked about some significant research findings, best practices, and case studies including our recent major effort with the Ad Council, SHARE YOUR VOICE.
Enjoy!

Ian -- fantastic to see you educating people about the potential of social media tools in the cause and non-profit worlds.
I recently took part in an event in Boston as part of the team behind http://www.sm4sc.com (@sm4sc on Twitter) that raised 20K for a local anti-domestic abuse group using only social media platforms. (http://www.sm4sc.com/blog/2008/10/12/social-media-for-social-change-the-wrapup/)
We were thrilled! Now we're branching out with our model to other cities and causes and hoping to start a bit of a revolution. We have some fantastic people on board already to help.
I'm a fulltime writer now, but I used to work in the non-profit world fulltime, and I can't TELL you what a difference all this would have made for my ability to reach out to, and build community.
Here's a piece I did on our site about the power of social media tools for non-profits:

If you're looking for a group to get involved with in future, we'd love to have you check us out.:)
