The secret’s out now. I was at the Mets game today instead of going to work.
But that didn’t mean I didn’t think about advertising.
My pal Steve Reed pointed out this sight on the right field wall:
To paraphrase famous Mets fan Jerry Seinfeld, “What’s the deal with putting two ads with the same fonts so close to each other?”
It’s funny. I never even realized that Geico’s and Casio’s brand fonts were so similar before this. It helped me to avoid thinking too hard about the Mets’ bullpen.
Earlier, I discussed the campaign to get Rick Astley’s Never Gonna Give You Up played at Shea Stadium.
Well, it happened. The song got over five million votes.
I caught it on my mobile phone at the game. The fan reaction was pretty harsh. Watch it here:
Here’s what it looked like on TV:
Some of these aren’t the full spots, some are only ‘teasers’, but I couldn’t find this anywhere else, so I thought I’d put it together.
If you find ones I didn’t, add them in the comments, and I’ll add them to the list.
For now, bookmark this post, and check back frequently for updates.

Omar Minaya, you’re my hero. Yes, I know this has nothing to do with marketing or advertising, but as far as I’m concerned it’s the biggest news of the week.
And how did I find out? By SMS. And Facebook. And via blogs. So maybe it does have to do with digital media after all. As a matter of fact, what I’d love to hear is if (and how) social media actually impacted this decision by either the Minnesota Twins or the New York Mets by putting pressure on the involved parties.
There. I made it about digital media.
I’ll take a break from my regularly scheduled internet related posting to acknowledge that I just watched Barry Bonds hit home run number 756*.
Hank Aaron appeared on the jumbotron to offer congratulations.
I congratulate Hank Aaron for handling the situation with class and dignity, while still making a statement by not physically being there.
And as a Mets fan, I take solace in the fact that the home run* was given up by a former Mets pitcher (Mike Bascik) and caught by someone in the stands (in San Francisco, while playing the Washington Nationals) wearing a Mets jersey.
To all those that read this blog from the Bay Area, I apologize in advance for not caring about Giants games anymore.
Oh - and to bring this back to the internet, my favorite part of all this is trying to figure out whether or not this ESPN.com “error” was intentional.
Now back to having fun watching Alex Rodrgiuez break this record over the next 8 years.
